oriental clothing, dwelling forms, and architecture. My paintings
are shaped by my personal story. But they are also reflections
on the lives of Arab women.
My perspective has changed drastically over the past twenty
years. Two Gulf Wars and their consequences for the world
order have profoundly influenced our “Western” perception.

The mysterious suitcase and a blind step: Not long ago, the
name “Baghdad” was associated with oriental atmosphere,
full of scents and aromas of the stories of “One Thousand and
One Nights”. It was linked to Mesopotamia, the land between
Tigris and the Euphrates, the cradle of ancient civilizations that
developed mathematics, astronomy, medicine, and linguistics.
My art allows me to return to the culture of my childhood, to
the mystical world of One Thousand and One Nights, incense,
