I believe that every moment has a special quality, and my
task as an artist is to wait until the moment reveals itself
to me. That’s why I only take ‘one shot’ of a subject with
my camera. In this precious glimpse, a vision, a message
is created. It’s as if the art creates me, not the other way
around. I am merely a spectator.
Art represents possibilities and glimpses of emptiness that
are the gates to heaven and sometimes to hell. The moments,
the spaces that exist ‘between something’ and ‘something
else’, where reality shows its inner beauty and mysterious
content, are the moments where everything vibrates and
simultaneously stands still. Valuable, silent, extraordinary
streams of consciousness and glimpses of truth. In this way, I
try to communicate with the world around me, and I feel very
fortunate as an artist: I am simply giving an offering back to
the life that supports me. With all its shadows, sorrows, and
pain, hope, dreams, and joy, people have the ability to change
direction because we are a part of life itself. - That’s why I
consider art to be a life-supporting ritual. (Aase-Hilde Brekke,
Associate Professor in Contemporary Art).
