BARBARA PAZZAGLIA
Lives and works in Rome, Italy

Barbara Pazzaglia is part of the post-Transavanguardia
movement, which continues the legacy of the
Transavanguardia, a group of Italian Neo-Expressionist artists
who emerged in the 1980s under the influence of the critic
Achille Bonito Oliva. The Transavanguardia artists revived
painting and reintroduced emotion and imagery into their
works, drawing inspiration from diverse sources.
Pazzaglia follows this tradition, but also adds her own
personal touch and vision to her art, influenced by Carl
Gustav Jung’s concept of synchronicity. She explores the
idea of a garden in extension without root, which is related
to phenomenology and the importance of the here and
now. She acknowledges that we live instant to instant
and that there is a difference between situations, as Karl
Jaspers and other philosophers have written. She also
controls her imagination, as Jean Paul Sartre suggested,
who was familiar with Husserl and Heidegger.
She also incorporates elements of philosophy, spirituality
and metaphysics into her works, exploring themes such
as identity, consciousness, transcendence and harmony.
She believes that artists live in a very complex world and
that they need to know all the psychology, philosophy,
psychoanalysis and neurology. She researches like a scientist
to create her work and to differentiate herself.
Pazzaglia’s art style is characterized by simple images
rendered in washed colors. She often uses forms and
symbols inspired by her garden landscape and the
Himalayan flora, which reflect her connection to nature
and her interest in environmental issues.
Pazzaglia has exhibited and published her work worldwide.
She is widely recognized as one of the most original and
influential contemporary Italian artists of her generation.
