artistic journey. All of which are treated as true poetry in
the service of great freedom. During her speech, Anne-
Sophie Thiébaud, municipal cultural advisor, in the presence
of Mayor Jean-Yves Dherbeys, deputies, municipal advisors
and many guests, perfectly summed up the life and the
works of the elusive artist. It is true that during these fifty
years, Virgone has left his mark on the canvas, delivering
messages full of deep and sensitive meaning.
Moved by this gesture of receiving the City Medal from
the first judge of the municipality, Virgone, in front of his
family and his friends expressed his gratitude towards being
honoured and appreciated for his paintings on display in the
world’s largest museums. As a pleasure never comes alone.
On the rhythm of sweet and melodic Italian music, he blew
the candles of a gorgeous birthday cake, he turned seventy
on 6 April 2017.
Virgone was born on 6 April 1946 in Sommatino, Italy. A
painter and sculptor, he is an artist working conscientiously,
in perfect harmony with his art in the daily fight for the
accomplishment of his work. The passion that drives
him always pushes him towards new creations. When
dissatisfied, he destroys work deemed by him insufficient,
in order to try again in order to best reflect his sensitivity.
Thus, one can observe transitions between landscapes,
portraits, still life and flowers. His impressions and his
feelings are influenced the nature and colors which allow
him to better express himself. Whether during his walks
or travels, he never hesitates to immortalize fleeting
moments on canvas. He takes advantage of an exhibition
in the afternoon to paint a lavender field. From trips in
Sicily, his native land, he will bring pastels in warm colors
with immense hills planted with olive trees. From Venice,
he brings very subtle and luminous works. Material and
color punctuate the work of Virgone. Emotional evening

municipality wished to pay a tribute to Joseph Virgone, an
artist Tullinois, for all of his works during his fifty years of
