         Catherine Pennington-Meyer’s work characterizes a
deep connection between the literary and visual arts.
Catherine, who holds a Master of Arts degree as well
as a post-graduate Master of Science degree often uses
snatches of her own narrative or poetry, to inspire and
infuse the mood and meaning of her work.

Catherine sees her art as a kind of language, translating
what she feels or experiences to those viewing it. She
is innately drawn to create raw, emotive, expressionist
pieces, which distil a subject down to its feeling and
communicate an energ y which is untethered by the
         constraints of realism.

Her award-winning work spans a space in the art
         spectrum, between abstract and semi-abstract
expressionism and she often errs toward reimagined
spaces, particularly sea and sky scapes.

She enjoys the exploration of the moods created by the
elements, and the natural world, and likes to play with
light, depth and movement in her art to give it immediacy
and to pull a viewer into the composition.
The result is often highly atmospheric work that is able to
draw the viewer into the ambiance of the scenes that she
paints. Her abstract works is often flamboyant and seeks
to capture and distil the essence of her subject, whether
that be the beauty of a surface, or the movement, spirit
                                                              or feel of a subject.
She looks to explore what is ‘beautiful’, noteworthy
or what we should be celebrating, encouraging us to
heighten our awareness of our surrounding, appreciate
our ‘ordinary’ environments and to see the beauty in
                                                              small things.
