earth is uncertain. Is this because Christophe does not walk? The
water which can be seen from certain angles can be imagined.
The fire understood through the utilization of yellow-orange in
some paintings. The air is felt, since the wind is noticeable in the

When I saw this painting for the first time, I was struck by
the maturity of the work. It is truly well-accomplished, it’s a
visionary piece. I thought of meetings, or rather non-meetings.
Do the characters meet or cross each other without seeing one
another? I could imagine characters from the Bible-mysterious
encounters in the desert- evoking Dante and Virgil. One of my
friends told me, “They are not on earth”. I also thought about the
